Awards Program

GCAA Eagle Awards Program

The Eagle Award has traditionally been given periodically to a deserving individual who has made a significant contribution to our industry, and was previously given at the annual Management Workshop.

In 2010, GCAA expanded the program to acknowledge the notable efforts of individual quarry locations in three categories.  The three categories are: the Eagle Awards for Excellence in Environmental, Community Relations and Health and Safety.  We will also continue with the Eagle Award for Individual Recognition.  The award presentations will be made at the annual Midyear Meeting.

Safety –
Vulcan Materials Company (Dalton Quarry) – Large Quarry
APAC Mid-South, Inc. (Mulberry Quarry) – Small Quarry
The Eagle Awards for Safety recognizes outstanding achievement in worker safety.  The criteria for this award is determining the quarry with the fewest reportable accidents.  The Large Quarry category is for 50,000+ man hours without a reportable accident and the Small Quarry category is <50,000.  The award winner for Small Quarry is APAC Mid-South, Inc. (Mulberry Quarry) and Large Quarry is Vulcan Materials Company (Dalton Quarry).  This is the second year that the Vulcan Materials Company Dalton Quarry has been awarded this honor.

Environmental Sustainability –
Lafarge Aggregates (Cumming Quarry)
The Eagle Award for Environmental Sustainability is based on a quarry’s ability to meet and exceed environmental and regulatory requirements.  Candidates must also certify they have not been issued a citation and have been in compliance with all environmental permits for the previous 2 years.  The quarry must also demonstrate a commitment to proper land use development and planning to ensure long-term aggregate resource availability while minimizing the impact on the natural site environment and local community.

GCAA Award Guidelines

We hope that this awards program will be another incentive for all locations to strive for excellence in these vital categories.  These areas in many ways define the view that our community has of our industry.  Exceptional performance in these areas does create a positive image.

Information on submitting for the 2012 Eagle Awards will be sent out in December 2011.
If you have any questions regarding the program, please feel free to contact our office.
