Awards Program

GCAA Eagle Awards Program

The Eagle Award has traditionally been given periodically to a deserving individual who has made a significant contribution to our industry, and was previously given at the annual Management Workshop.

In 2010, GCAA expanded the program to acknowledge the notable efforts of individual quarry locations in three categories.  The three categories are: the Eagle Awards for Excellence in Environmental, Community Relations and Health and Safety.  We will also continue with the Eagle Award for Individual Recognition.  The award presentations will be made at the annual Midyear Meeting.

2012 Eagle Awards

We hope that this awards program will be another incentive for all locations to strive for excellence in these vital categories.  These areas in many ways define the view that our community has of our industry.  Exceptional performance in these areas does create a positive image.

HIGHWAY REAUTHORIZATION UPDATE

April 23, 2012

The U.S. Senate has taken the next steps towards proceeding to a House-Senate conference on the surface transportation reauthorization bill (S. 1813). Moments ago, under a previous unanimous consent agreement, the Senate took up H.R. 4348 (the House-passed "shell" bill), replaced that bill's text with the text of S. 1813, passed the bill as amended, insisted on its amendment, requested a conference with the House, and named the following conferees (in the ratio of 8 Democrats to 6 Republicans):

Democrats: Boxer, Baucus, Rockefeller, Durbin, Johnson (SD), Schumer, Nelson (FL), Menendez

Republicans: Inhofe, Vitter, Hatch, Shelby, Hutchison, Hoeven

The next step is up to the House of Representatives, which must formally disagree to the Senate amendment, agree to go to a conference, and appoint its own conferees.
